On December 6th, 2022, Decrypt Studios held the inaugural Crypties awards gala at Art Basel in Miami, an event that celebrated the best projects, products, and initiatives in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency. With emcee Josh Ostrovsky („The Fat Jewish“) and presenters from a variety of crypto projects, the evening was sponsored by Polygon, Filecoin Foundation, Lamina1, Async, BeetsDAO, The Gold Mask, Gem Set, Breakout, Anonymous, Infinite Objects, Ape Water, Decentralized Pictures, and Vault 721.

The event recognized nine categories of excellence, and the winner of the Social Impact category was Celo, accepted by Marek Olszewski from presenter Dan Roberts of Decrypt Media. The other nominees in the category included Ukraine DAO, Dream DAO, Proof of Protest, and Digital Diaspora.

On November 3rd, 0xpo Summit in San Francisco had a panel on raising venture money even during Crypto Winter, featuring Clay Robbins of Slow Ventures, Soona Amhaz of Volt Capital, Sarah Guo of Conviction and formerly Greylock, and Alex Strzesniewski of AngelBlock, joining Decrypt’s Jason Nelson.

Also on November 3rd, Web Summit 2022 hosted a panel featuring Tezos co-founder Kathleen Breitman, discussing the use of proof-of-stake and NFT gaming with Decrypt’s Stephen Graves. Breitman discussed how the Tezos blockchain had used a proof-of-stake mechanism since its inception, her admiration for Tendermint, Ethereum and sharding, progressive decentralization, and NFT gaming.

Overall, the Crypties 2022 awards gala was a celebration of the best projects, products, and initiatives in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency. The Social Impact category was won by Celo, accepted by Marek Olszewski, while other panels on the day discussed raising venture money even during Crypto Winter and the use of proof-of-stake and NFT gaming.
